What makes Sweet White Box cakes so special?
How far in advance should I book my cake?
You should try and book your cake as far in advance as possible. This is simply to prevent disappointment in your date already being booked out with other cakes. If you know you defiantly want a cake for that date but unsure of numbers or other details, you can still book it, pay a deposit and then sort out the finer details a bit closer to the date. As a general rule, 1 month notice is recommended with more for busier seasons.
How do I place an order?
For online orders go to the menu option ‘shop’. Select your products which may include cakes, cupcakes, cookies, balloons and or candles. Once you have added required products to your shopping cart, go to your cart and enter and submit your details. This is a request for order and your order will be confirmed by Sweet White box within 24 hours of submitting your request
For other orders please either email, phone or fill in an online enquiry. If you are emailing though an enquiry please include the following details and you will be contacted shortly with a quote for your cake or to make an appointment to discuss further:
- The date of your event
- The occasion/nature of your event (wedding, birthday, christening, etc)
- The event location, delivery address, and delivery time
- How many people you will need to serve
- Your daytime phone number
- Your email address
- Any ideas of what kind of cake design you are looking for
How long will my cake last?
How long your cake will last will depend on the flavour you have ordered. As a general guide, from the date you get your cake they will be at their best for eating as follows:
- Chocolate Mud cake – 2 weeks
- White Chocolate and Carmel Mud Cake – 5 days
- Butter cakes, banana cake and carrot cake – 3 days
- Cupcakes – 3 days
Note, if your cake has chocolate ganache in it, this tends to have a shorter shelf life due to the cream in the ganache. I recommend that the cake be consumed within the use by date of the cream used. I get the longest shelf life possible for the cream being used in my ganache. If you would like to know the use by date of the cream I used for your cake please just ask.
If you know you won’t finish all the left overs of the cake within the time frames recommended, your cake can be frozen to be eaten at a later date. All my cakes are made fresh to order so have not been previously frozen.
What is the difference between a coffee and desert portion?
A coffee portion is half the size of a desert portion. Coffee portions are 2.5 by 2.5 by 9cm and desert portions are 2.5 by 5 by 9cm.
What is ganache and should I order it with my cake?
Ganache is a combination or cream and chocolate to make a lovely rich icing. Sweet White Box makes white chocolate and dark chocolate ganache. Ganache needs to be used on carved or 3 dimensional cakes to ‘crumb coat’ the cake, enabling a lovely smooth fondant finish. Standard round and square cakes can have ganache, but it is not essential.
Unless it is a 3D or carved cake, Sweet White Box does not use ganache on the round and square cakes traditionally. The main reasons for this are:
- Reduces the shelf life of your cake after the event as the cream expiration date affects the cake shelf life
- The cakes Sweet White Box make are very moist and hence from customer feedback, the cakes do not necessarily require it.
In saying all this, Sweet White Box is more than happy to ganache and torte any cake if this is what you would like and this is your taste preference. This is done at an additional charge which can be discussed upon your enquiry. Ganache tastes beautiful and your cake will be lovely and tasty with and without it.
What is the difference between a coffee and desert portion?
A coffee portion is half the size of a desert portion. Coffee portions are 2.5 by 2.5 by 9cm and desert portions are 2.5 by 5 by 9cm. Please see Cake Portions for more information.
What factors influence the cost of my cake?
The main factors considered when pricing your cake are the following:
- Type of cake
- Type of icing (e.g. fondant, ganache, buttercream)
- Number of tiers
- Size of Cake
- Number and type of sugar decorations (e.g. fondant figurines, flowers)
- Delivery location
- Complexity of design
If you have a particular budget to adhere to it is best to be up front with Sweet White Box so that the above factors can by discussed as ways to create a cake that you will love and remember whilst still being within you budget.
How should I store my cake?
Cakes covered in fondant icing need to be keep out of the sunlight in a cool flat location e.g. on a bench in the kitchen or in a cupboard. You should not put your cake in the fridge or this will cause condensation on the icing and there is a risk of the colours running. If you wish to put your cake in the fridge after it has been cut, this is fine.
When and how can I pay for my cake?
A 50% deposit for your cake is required upon booking. This will enable your date to be saved. This is also to ensure we can commence making any sugar art required for your cake e.g. figurines, flowers. The remaining 50% is required 1week prior to delivery date.
You can pay by one of 3 methods:
- Funds Transfer directly into a bank account. These details will be on your invoice.
- Cash, cheque or money order
Do you do cakes for allergies?
Cakes to suit certain types of allergies can be accommodated most of the time. These include egg, dairy, gluten and nut free cakes. I come from a Dietitian background so understand the requirements for these diets. Although every effort is taken to ensure that no cross contamination occurs with the allergen, these products are still used within the kitchen and hence ordering an allergy free cake is done so at your own risk.
Do you do cake tastings?
Cake tastings can be arranged for wedding cakes. These cost $20 but upon making your booking, this amount will be deducted from your order cost.
Do you do custom cakes as well as the ones on the website for sale?
Yes. Custom cakes can be ordered anytime. The ones available on the website are some of the more popular design and are there for convenience for some customers. Variations to these designs or completely new designs can be accommodated as well.
Can I have different flavours for a multi – tiered cake or cupcakes?
Absolutely. Each tier on a cake can be a different flavour at no additional charge. As for cupcakes, a different flavour per 12 cupcakes can be accommodated.
What about delivery?
Your cake can be delivered to Sydney Metro areas for a fee of $50. Please see delivery terms for postcodes included in this fee. If you fall outside this area your cake can still be delivered but the fee will be quoted upon enquiry. Delivery occurs 7 days per week at a time negotiated between you and Sweet White Box.

You don’t have a shop front. Is that something I should be concerned about?
Definitely not. Sweet White Box is a home operated business which has been approved by Parramatta Council. It is also listed with the Food Authority and has all necessary insurance. All required food safety certificates are also held by the owner Nicole Akdagcik.
Sweet White Box can offer you an array of delicious cake flavours. When trying to decide what cake flavour to consider think of the following:

- Do I want it to have a longer shelf life and eat it over many days (recommended chocolate mud) or do I not mind?
- Is it a carved 3D cake? If it is, a dense cake such as a mud cake is required.

Knowing what size cake to select can always be tricky when the number of guests can change. At Sweet White Box we are happy to change the size of your cake up to 1 week prior to delivery if your number guests change. You may like your cake to be coffee sized portions (2.5 by 2.5 by 9 cm) if there will be other desserts at the venue or you are serving it with accompaniments such as berries, ice-cream and cream. Alternatively you may like to cater dessert sized portions (2.5 by 5 by 9cm) if this will be the main dessert. When deciding what to order keep in mind that mud cakes are richer in flavour and guests tend to eat a smaller sized piece than if you had a butter cake. In addition to this, if it is a children’s party, they are also more likely to require the coffee sized portion.
Here's a general guide to round cake sizes
Here's a general guide to square cake sizes
Our cupcake range comes in 3 different sizes. When considering what size cupcake to order some things to consider are the age of your guests (e.g. children tend to eat smaller sizes), if there will be other desserts available and the theme of the event (e.g. high tea style). The sizes are:
- Mini: 3.5 cm base
- Regular: 4 cm base
